About The Band The Lakeridge Dixie Stompers came together in the spring of 2014 . We are best described as a traditional or dixieland jazz band. The band provides an acoustic sound as an alternative to the commonly heard high decibel electrically amplified bands and DJs. We provide a repertoire of happy swingin' jazz music, with some blues and ballads, for your dancing and listening pleasure. |

The band line-up is mainly that which originated in the early years of the 20th century in New Orleans where Jazz music was born. This line up was maintained through the Revival of this musical form in the 1940's and by the Chicago Dixieland bands and also in the Trad Jazz rage in the UK and Europe in the 1960's.The Front Line is a blend of trumpet, clarinet and trombone, weaving the melody with counter-melodies and improvisations. . The distinctive bouncing rythym is achieved by the unique pulse contributed by our plectrum banjoist and upright string bass player. The vocalising is handled by whoever wants to get in on the act!
The three basic philosophies behind the band's considerable repertoire are:
1) “ the Public knows what it likes and likes what it knows “ and
2) “if you can't sing it we don't play it” as well as
3) “it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing”.
With this in mind, the band plays mainly clean, catchy tunes with a clear melody and a toe-tapping beat, often spicing up the program with songs of rough cut, earthy humour as well as blues , hymns and gospel tunes. Our tunes are mainly from the “Jazz Age “ period (1900-1930) with some being as early as the 1850's and as late as the 1960's although we will play anything that fits the mould.
It is from the infectious joy of playing that the band gets its happy “ good-time” sound .
